Mercedes GLB 2026: 631 km range, 800 volts and seven seats
Compact SUVs and electric mobility – a combination that keeps getting better. With the new GLB featuring EQ technology, Mercedes-Benz is making a clear statement starting in spring 2026: The successor to the popular EQB is larger, technologically state-of-the-art, and boasts a range that is unparalleled in its vehicle class. We present the new model to you in detail.
The EQB is gone: The GLB takes over.
Anyone who previously had the Mercedes EQB on their radar needs to adjust their thinking: The EQB designation is no longer used – the new electric compact SUV is simply called the GLB with EQ technology. This is more than just a name change. The new GLB is based on Mercedes' modern MMA platform, which enables a wide range of hybrid and electric powertrains. Visually, the GLB remains true to its DNA: The "boxy" design of the first GLB has been retained in the second generation – angular, pragmatic, with a subtle off-road feel. Those who liked the predecessor will feel right at home. And for those unfamiliar with it: The ADAC aptly described the GLB in its test report as an SUV that looks like what children would draw an off-road vehicle to look like – and we mean that as a genuine compliment.
Range, charging capacity, power: An overview of the Mercedes GLB's technology
Mercedes is really taking the lead with its powertrains. At launch, two all-electric variants are available: the GLB 250+ with EQ technology delivers 200 kW (272 hp), while the GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ technology boasts 260 kW (354 hp) and all-wheel drive. Both share a lithium-ion battery with 85 kWh of usable capacity and a modern 800-volt architecture. What particularly impresses us is that the GLB 250+ offers an unparalleled driving range in its class, with a WLTP range of up to 631 km. According to the manufacturer, the GLB 350 4MATIC achieves up to 614 km. These are impressive figures for a family SUV of this size. Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, a charging time of just 10 minutes provides enough power for up to 260 kilometers of range – perfect for long holiday trips with a quick stop at a fast charger. According to the manufacturer, the maximum DC charging power is up to 320 kW. A nice little bonus: hidden under the hood is a 127-liter frunk – enough space for ski boots, hiking gear, or an extra suitcase. It doesn't get much more practical than that.
Room for the whole family – and then some!
The GLB has always been a marvel of space efficiency, and it remains so. As a five-seater, the boot holds 540 liters, expandable to 1,715 liters. In addition, there's a 127-liter frunk in the front. The all-wheel-drive GLB 350 4MATIC model can also tow trailers with a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg. The GLB is optionally available with seven seats – the third row now offers space for people up to 1.75 m tall. Access to the third row has also been improved: a longer adjustment range for the Easy-Entry function and larger rear door openings make getting in and out significantly more comfortable. This is a real advantage for families with children or grandparents who occasionally ride along.
Inside, Mercedes relies on modern technology: The MBUX Superscreen is available as an option, featuring a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch central display, and another 14-inch screen for the front passenger behind a large glass surface. We find that quite impressive – even if it might take some getting used to the idea that the passenger essentially has their own private movie night.
Pricing and availability: How much does this fun cost?
Sales in Germany began at the end of 2025. The GLB 250+ with EQ technology is available from €59,048, while the GLB 350 4MATIC starts at €62,178. Private customers can configure the GLB 250+ with a lease rate starting at €305 per month. For business users, the tax advantages are worth considering : Electric vehicles with a gross list price of up to €100,000 are subject to the 0.25% rule for company car taxation, reducing the tax burden to a quarter of that for a combustion engine vehicle. Furthermore, companies that purchase an electric vehicle for business use between July 1, 2025, and December 31, 2027, can depreciate 75% of the vehicle's value in the year of purchase. This makes the GLB a genuine option as a company car.
Conclusion: The GLB shows where the journey is headed.
The new Mercedes GLB with EQ technology makes a powerful statement: a range of over 600 km, fast charging at up to 320 kW, space for seven people, and a trunk that can easily accommodate even the biggest family vacation – it's a compelling combination. Sure, the starting price of just under €60,000 isn't exactly a bargain. But anyone looking for a spacious family SUV with long-distance capabilities will find a well-rounded package here. We think the GLB sets new standards in its class and demonstrates that electromobility and everyday family life no longer require compromise.
